About the Product
The fifth step of the Obagi Nu Derm System is a product called Blender. This is primarily designed to be a skin brightener and works by targeting the melanin in the skin to slow the production of those cells and slowly decrease the darkness on your skin. It is a topical treatment that is used once per day on the affected areas.
As with most other products in the Obagi line this one is meant to be used in combination with the other step products in the Nu Derm collection. It can be used individually (and still works wonders when used as a single cream) but it definitely helps to use the various moisturizers, deep cleansers, toners, and more.
Obagi Blender consists of Arbutin, a very popular, effective, and gentle skin lightening agent. It’s composition also includes a variety of other ingredients including:
- Cetyl Alcohol
- Sodium Lauryl Sulfate
- Stearyl Alcohol
- Vitamin E
- Ascorbic Acid
- Sodium Metabisulfite
- Lactic Acid
- Disodium EDTA
Overall these are very gentle ingredients that work together to gradually lighten your skin in a safe manner. These are components that are found in most other cosmetics and it also includes moisturizers and essential nutrients and vitamins that will help to clear and brighten your skin.
We are firm believers in the power of word-of-mouth product evaluations. For that reason we always dig up reviews from real customers that have actually used a product before recommending it to ANYONE. Even if we ourselves get great results we still check the experiences of others, too, as should you.
Here are some of the Obagi Blender reviews we found online (click the images to enlarge them):
Years ago I used the complete line of Obagi products through a physician’s office and loved the results. However, the system is intense. If you use the prescription products your skin is likely to peel, get red etc. to reveal the smooth skin underneath. Eventually, I had a reaction to one of the products and discontinued the regime. The Nu-Derm Blend is the over the counter version of Obagi’s prescription skin lightning product. The RX version contains 4% hydroquinone. Hydroquinone is an aggressive treatment for sun damaged, pigmented skin but it may also damage skin tissue and is banned in some countries. So using the less aggressive FX product will take longer but may be best in the long run.
The FX product contains arbutin, exfoliants and antioxidants to help smooth the skin and reduce the appearance of dark spots, age spots, freckles and other hyper-pigmenation. Combined with a retinol product such as an over the counter 1% retinol or prescription strength it can be even more effective at renovating the skin.
I found the product to go on smoothly. It does have a chemical smell to it that is not the greatest. It will take time to see how effective it is at brightening my skin. But I like the rest of the products in the line and feel this is likely to be another winner. I plan to combine it with an OTC 1% retinol product. (Kortick – Amazon Review)
Obagi Nu-Derm Blend Fx, 2 oz. is recommended for a person who has a mild skin problem that a brightening cream would correct. This is a well made, high quality product.
Most people have had great experiences with the Blender product. A lot of people state that they use it in combination with either Obagi Clear or Obagi’s Tretinoin cream but, either way, real opinions reveal real results. This skin brightener works.. it’s as simple as that.
Pricing and Buying Information
Obagi’s Nu Derm Blender #5 is available through a number of retailers. We recommend picking it up at Amazon – a very reputable and affordable online shop where the product is available.
Other retailers price gouge customers a lot simply because it’s a very well known brand and a high end brand at that. Many shops take advantage of these facts and overcharge for the products provided by companies like Obagi but Amazon is one of the few that doesn’t. They also provide great customer service when needed.
